SANDISFIELD – Tuesday, July 26, 2011 – Governor Deval Patrick today joined public officials and firefighters at the Sandisfield Fire Department to kick-off construction of the MassBroadband 123 fiber-optic network project to expand broadband access to more than 120 communities in western and north central Massachusetts. Massachusetts Broadband Institute Announces Agreement with Springfield To Advance the MassBroadband 123 Network
Springfield, MA (March 21, 2011) – In keeping with the Patrick-Murray Administration’s commitment to expanding broadband access in western Massachusetts, the MBI today announced an important agreement with the City of Springfield to advance the MassBroadband 123 network and provide broadband infrastructure connections for more than 150 schools, libraries, hospitals and public safety entities in Springfield. In addition, the MBI will utilize the city’s existing infrastructure to connect the MassBroadband 123 fiber-optic network to the major Internet connection point in Springfield.

Massachusetts Receives Important Federal Approval to Advance the MassBroadband 123 Network
Westborough, MA (March 14, 2011) – The MBI today announced it has received the necessary federal approval to advance the MassBroadband 123 network project. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has formally approved the MBI’s environmental assessment, a critical requirement to commencing the 1,338 mile Internet backbone network build that will expand broadband access in western and north central Massachusetts communities. Massachusetts Broadband Institute Announces
Agreement with Network Operator
Westborough, MA (February 28, 2011) – The Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) today announced a major milestone agreement with Axia NGNetworks USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Axia NetMedia Corporation (Axia), an international broadband Next Generation Network (NGN) company, to serve as the network operator for the MassBroadband 123 fiber-optic network. Under the agreement, Axia will manage and maintain the 1,338 mile, $71.6 million Internet backbone network that the MBI is developing to expand broadband services in communities throughout western and north central Massachusetts.
