Notice to Interested Broadband
Industry Participants

from the Massachusetts Broadband Institute
July 16, 2009

The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) on behalf of the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) is seeking interested broadband industry participants to develop or expand broadband infrastructure in western Massachusetts. The potential industry partners targeted include last mile service providers including wired, wireless, and wholesale broadband service providers and other entities seeking to provide “last mile” broadband services in western Massachusetts.

The potential partners must have:

  • Relevant assets that include but are not limited to an existing customer base, middle-mile broadband infrastructure, wireless spectrum licenses or access to physical infrastructure such as utility poles or communications towers in western Massachusetts
  • Capabilities should include operational experience in broadband construction and/or service provision
  • Interest in developing or expanding broadband availability in the area

MTC has engaged CSMG, a Boston-based telecom specialist firm, to provide consulting services to evaluate potential industry partners and prioritize candidates interested in working with the MBI. CSMG will contact companies meeting certain criteria to request an interview with executives to gain further insight into operations, capabilities and interest level of each firm.

Interviews are intended to capture information regarding:

  • Qualifications, experience, financial stability and track record of the firm
  • Specific infrastructure that MTC would need to construct that would allow the firm to make complimentary investments
  • Existing Massachusetts assets or resources
  • Issues and barriers, common interest or proposed approaches for partnership and interconnection that are relevant to the success of a partnership between MTC and the firm

MTC’s goal is to establish an effective and financially sound partnership with broadband service providers that can successfully operate a sustainable business model leveraging public sector investment.

Thank you, and we look forward to meeting with you.
